Welcome to St. Michael's Episcopal Church. ECW officially stands for Episcopal Church Women, but also means "Everyone Caring and Working Together." We encourage women to serve our Lord through worship, service, stewardship and fellowship. As a member of St. Michael's, every woman is automatically a member of the ECW. Our theme in 2008 is "Women of Purpose."
The ECW supports agencies such as Meals on Wheels, Thompson Family Focus, The Helen Wright Center, and diocesan missionaries with funding and volunteer hours. Traditionally, we hold a spring outreach fundraiser which also serves as a social gathering for the entire parish. In 2008, we look forward to being a part of "The Millennium Follies". This unique fundraiser will feature a cocktail reception on the church grounds, followed by an evening of entertainment by our own parishoners. Proceeds will benefit the education of women in the Episcopal Church of the Sudan. In October, we host an annual Mother/Daughter Dinner for all women of St. Michael's. We also offer support to our parish as needed.
The ECW holds three general membership meetings each year to allow all women of the church to gather together. The meetings include a short business session followed by an informative and inspiring speaker then lunch for a nominal cost. These meetings are usually held on the first Monday of March, September, and November.
Additionally, the ECW consists of several chapters. These are small groups that provide fellowship, study and Christian service. The four groups are comprised of all ages, and we invite you to find one that's right for you.
Chapters
- St. Clare - This chapter boasts many long-time members of St. Michael's including some charter members. The women meet at 10:00 am on the first Monday of each month for biblical study and fellowship. The chair of this chapter is May Grimsley (848-7418).
- St. Elizabeth - This chapter was formed in 1998 by a group of women whom mostly work outside the home. They meet in members' homes in the evening on the fourth Monday of the month for fellowship and support - of each other and of worthy service organizations. Gail Dawson (420-0393) and Christina Shatney (752-0244) co-chair this chapter.
- St. Margaret - Many women in this chapter have pre-school to middle school-aged children. They meet on the first Monday of each month at 9:30 am in the Convocation Room. Babysitting is provided. The co-chairs of this chapter are Robin Kennedy (571-3633) and Marianne Traywick (510-6836).
- St. Mary - This chapter evolved from the St. Margaret chapter as a place for women "in transition" with teenage and young adult children. Many women in this group find themselves empty nesters. They meet on the first Monday of each month at 9:30 am in the Parlor. Lee Hayden (420-6054) and Debbie Lane (571-0797) co-chair this chapter.
We look forward to meeting you and encourage you to join us for one of our events. Involvement with ECW is a great way to meet people, and you can choose to be as active as you want. For more information, please feel free to contact one of the chapter chairs listed above or officers of the ECW who are listed below. May the peace of the Lord be always with you.
